I started to build my sub-woofer because I didn't like the pre-fab kind (didn't match my wife's antique decor!) The box is made of 3/4 MDF (almost 1 sheet!) with cross bracing and internal holes for air flow. I then wrapped the enclosure with 3/4 red oak and finished it off with redoak strips and other pieces to make the cabinet look like it was made out of all hardwood (no plywood). The look I was after was to make it appear like our antique Ice Box with the panels, and the top detail like our antique buffet. It is stained with minwax golden pecan and then again with minwax early american to give it that golden dark color. All assembled, it weighs about 125 pounds.
